It has always bothered me that as Americans we have such a limited view of Black people. Oh, don’t go looking around and smirking, many Black people have a distorted view of who we are. The more we increase our world view the more we are able to accept that everyone doesn’t look or think as we do. Included in this mythology is the concept of the Black Cowboy; yes, there have always been Black Cowboys. There are numerous books and resources regarding Black cowboys, of note is the University of Washington’s Dr Quintard Taylor, http://www.quintardtaylor.com/search-racial-frontier-african-americans-american-west-1528-1990 but there are other writer who also explore this topic (search Black Cowboys”.
Today I was alerted to a new documentary that is in production by John Ferguson, http://www.emphas.is/web/guest/discoverprojects?projectID=683, about modern day cowboys, from which I post this video.
