Juliet:
“‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What’s Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;…” William Shakespeare
I believe that as a Black Person/African American it is imperative that we recognize that we are in a perpetual state of conflict. We live in a glorious America which initially counted slaves as 3/5 of a person, to bolster apportionment numbers for the South (See 3/5 Compromise, http://constitution.laws.com/three-fifths-compromise), and further under Reconstruction and during Jim Crow, we were virtually invisible. Unfortunately, we’ve spent too much time trying to gain acceptance and not enough effort into learning how to take care of ourselves.
Going forward, we can be catatonic and become mesmerized by the Democrat’s the mantra of victimization or we can seriously understand our enemy.
